Five Melado Flavours Worth Trying First

Forty flavours is a lot to face on a first visit. Here is a shorter list.

1. Kulfa Delight, Rs 150

The one to order if you want to judge the shop. Kulfa is unforgiving: too little khoya and it tastes thin, too much sugar and the cardamom disappears. It is the flavour that tells you whether the dairy base is real, which is why it is the first thing worth trying anywhere.

2. Choco Kunafa Pistachio, Rs 200

The most ordered Premium flavour, and the one people photograph. Chocolate base with kunafa strands and pistachio through it. The crunch is the point; it is what stops it from being just another chocolate scoop.

3. Royal Falooda, Rs 150

Texture rather than sweetness. Better on a hot afternoon than almost anything else on the board, and it holds up in a cup for longer than a plain scoop does.

4. Zafran, Rs 500

Premium Gold, and priced accordingly. Real saffron is expensive and there is no way to fake it convincingly, which is why very few brands in Pakistan carry a proper saffron scoop. Order it once to see what the top of the range tastes like.

5. Lotus Bliss, Rs 200

Order this one as a shake rather than a scoop. Biscuit spread blends better than it scoops, and the Lotus shake at Rs 590 is thick enough that the straw stands up in it.

If you are ordering for a group

Two Elite scoops, one Premium and a shake to share covers most tastes and keeps the bill reasonable. Add a fresh-fruit popsicle at Rs 150 for anyone who does not want dairy.

Everything is on the full menu, and prices are the same at every branch.
